Safer Internet Day 2021

Over the years, Safer Internet Day has become a landmark event in the online safety calendar. Starting as an initiative of the EU SafeBorders project in 2004 and taken up by the Insafe network as one of its earliest actions in 2005, Safer Internet Day has grown beyond its traditional geographic zone and is now celebrated in approximately 170 countries worldwide. From cyberbullying to social networking to digital identity, each year Safer Internet Day aims to raise awareness of emerging online issues and current concerns.

We are supporting Safer Internet Day today with a range of resources, videos and advice.

Our editor spent an afternoon answering questions that school children had about video games. As you can see in the video this turned into a useful conversation you might want to share with parents from your children's school.

It was also interesting to hear children keen to understand the emotional benefits and impacts of games, how they could play games healthily and to understand the PEGI ratings.

Video Games That Teach About Healthy Internet Use

The Family Video Game Database we support has put together this list of games that are good at developing critical thinking. This can be to consider what it feels like to be new to a country. Or to try out running a newspaper to see the impact of headlines and fake news.
