Uden Family Tries 10 Years of Angry Birds
Some games become part of the fabric of modern childhood. Whether its the block building of Minecraft, sporting prowess of FIFA or battling of Fortnite. But there's one game that has been around for 10 years that unites people regardless of whether they play games.
Angry Birds is a simple concept where you fling a bird projectile to collapse a tower constructed by the piggies who have stolen your eggs. It's simple fun that's great for families because all ages can enjoy it together.
This week we took a sample of the different Angry Birds games to the Uden family to see how they got on. They'd never played Angry Birds before, so this was a chance to see how mum, as well as the twin boys, reacted to the game.
The games we played were:
- Angry Birds Friends (2012)
- Angry Birds 2 (2015)
- Angry Birds Match (2017)
- Angry Birds Dream Blast (2019)
If you are looking for good ways to start gaming together as a family, games like this are a great place to start. Played on a tablet screen you can work together to bring down the piggie structures. You can also take turns to compete for high scores.
As with most long-standing game series, there's more here than meets the eye. In each of the games you need to develop your skill. But also, working through the different games as we did, you see the game develop.
Finding a range of games around a simple theme like this is a good way to involve young players who enjoy different aspects of the play.
We tested Angry Birds on the iPad, but it's a game you can get on whatever gaming technology you have. Consoles, handhelds, smartphones, and tablets all have Angry Birds games. There's even a version for PlayStation VR.
